2020 I had a vision that didn’t really come true. I didn’t travel to Bali, didn’t get to participate in my Meditation teacher training, and wasn’t able to see my friends from far away. Instead, I said at home, was forced to turn inward, and look at the parts of myself that still need healing. I lost more tears than in any other year before, and also learned more lessons about what it means to be human than any other year before. Instead of setting high expectations and goals for the next year, I’m doing things differently. I’m choosing things differently. I’m approaching things differently.
Lessons of 2020
2020 – a year none of us will ever forget. The year we rallied together to support one another and stand with each other. The year community over competition became real on a whole new level.
2020 – a year that offered the invitation to deeply transform for me, the opportunity to sit with discomfort and embrace the reality that life is consistently uncertain. Always.
2020 – a year that gave the choice to look at everything from a new perspective, to make the decision to be with difference and get curious about what is really happening for us when we are in resistance to it.
The upside of uncertainty
One of my most sacred lessons of 2020 that I’ve learned is this: when so much is uncertain and unavailable, when I have to get creative, innovative even – I’ve realised how much magic I can create on my own, in my own home – within. I can light my favourite candles, hop on my yoga mat for a good stretch, and prepare my favourite, nourishing meal (a savouring coconut curry). Yes, I can make the smallest moments absolutely magical.
When all you have are the small moments, you learn how to expand them. How to make them bigger. How to stretch out the joy. And isn’t that a lesson to carry with us forever? As we start to close out the year, what are you leaving in 2020?
What are you inviting instead?
3 questions to ponder on:
What is at least one thing you can celebrate about yourself this year?
Where did you find hope this year?
What are you proud of yourself for?
I don’t know about you, but I am so ready for 2021.
I believe in you – Us.
You and me.
